Overview:

As our Operations Manager, you will lead the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the site while ensuring exceptional service for internal and external customers. This role is responsible for fostering strong partnerships across Unions, Contractors, Customers, Customer Service teams, operational personnel, and external parties while overseeing all aspects of site performance. Success in this position is driven by a commitment to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and the goal of zero miss-shipments, accidents, claims, and cargo damage.

Job Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

 

Operational Leadership & Customer Service

  • Lead all site operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused execution of shipping, receiving, storage, inventory, maintenance, and transportation activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, future customers, unions, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure service expectations are met.
  • Oversee the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of operational data, records, reporting, and customer communications.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence by ensuring adherence to OSHA, environmental, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, secure, and compliant facility while overseeing inspections, training programs, incident investigations, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing shipments, cargo inspections, load securement, and inventory processes are completed accurately and in accordance with applicable regulations.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Manage site performance through oversight of budgeting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, inventory controls, billing processes, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor operational performance, labor efficiency, costs, and profitability while establishing site goals, tracking key metrics, and implementing improvements.
  • Oversee company assets, equipment maintenance programs, preventive maintenance schedules, vendor relationships, and inventory reconciliation activities.

Leadership & Employee Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop employees through performance management, training, recognition, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with regional and corporate leadership to support workforce planning, staffing, employee development, and achievement of business objectives.

Job Requirements

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in transportation, shipping, logistics, terminal, port, or related operations.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and leadership experience.
  • Proven leadership experience with strong business acumen and the ability to drive safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, safety programs, environmental compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial reporting, cost controls, and performance metrics.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to analyze business data and trends.
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed.

EVEN BETTER IF YOU HAVE:

  • Experience in vessel, terminal, cargo, port, shipping, or transportation operations.
  • Knowledge of labor agreements, collective bargaining environments, or maritime industry regulations.
  • Experience leading operational improvement initiatives and developing standardized processes.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, equipment maintenance programs, and facility operations.

The expected starting salary range for this position is $104,000 to $110,000 per year.
