Registered Dental Hygienist Job Overview
The RDH is responsible for providing preventative dental care, educating patients on oral health, and supporting the dentist in delivering high-quality care. This position plays a critical role in promoting optimal oral hygiene and ensuring patient comfort and satisfaction.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dental prophylaxis (cleanings), scaling, root planing, and periodontal maintenance.
- Take and process dental X-rays (digital or traditional).
- Conduct oral cancer screenings and evaluate patients for signs of oral diseases.
- Apply fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive materials.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care techniques.
- Review and document medical and dental histories.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records and charting in compliance with dental practice standards.
- Sterilize instruments and ensure operatory cleanliness between patients.
- Assist the dentist during examinations when needed.
- Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and OSHA standards.
Registered Dental Hygienist Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- State-registered Dental Hygienist
Registered Dental Hygienist Experience
- At least 1 yearÂ
