RN Nurse Manager – Bridges Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center – San Pedro, CA. This is a Full-Time Leadership Position.

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and visionary RN Nurse Manager to lead our Bridges Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, a specialized inpatient behavioral health program dedicated to providing safe, evidence-based, recovery-oriented care for adults experiencing acute psychiatric crises.
As the Nurse Manager for Bridges, you will have the unique opportunity to lead a highly skilled interdisciplinary team in a dynamic behavioral health environment that focuses on patient safety, stabilization, therapeutic engagement, and successful transitions of care. This leadership role is ideal for a nurse leader who is passionate about behavioral health, caregiver development, quality improvement, regulatory excellence, and fostering a culture of compassion and dignity for individuals living with mental illness.
The Nurse Manager is accountable for the delivery of high-quality nursing care, operational excellence, workforce engagement, and the administrative management of a 24-hour inpatient psychiatric unit with oversight of more than 50 FTEs. This leader will collaborate closely with physicians, social workers, therapists, pharmacists, case managers, and executive leadership to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and an outstanding caregiver experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of clinical and operational performance within the Bridges Acute Care Crisis Psychiatric Unit.
  • Foster a culture of safety, therapeutic excellence, trauma-informed care, and patient-centered practice.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, California Department of Public Health requirements, and Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health regulations.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives focused on reducing falls, restraints and seclusions, workplace violence incidents, and readmissions while enhancing patient and caregiver outcomes.
  • Monitor and improve unit productivity, staffing effectiveness, fiscal stewardship, overtime management, and resource utilization.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop nursing leaders and frontline caregivers to achieve professional growth and excellence in practice.
  • Lead daily operations, patient throughput, psychiatric emergency response processes, admissions, discharges, and coordination of care activities.
  • Promote evidence-based behavioral health nursing practices, therapeutic communication, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams to support individualized treatment planning and recovery-focused care.
  • Champion caregiver engagement, recognition programs, succession planning, shared governance, and Magnet principles.
  • Oversee performance improvement projects, regulatory readiness, competency programs, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Serve as a leader during organizational change, fostering resilience, accountability, and collaboration among caregivers.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • California Registered Nurse License upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent clinical nursing experience.

     

Preferred Experience:

  • Three (3) years of recent inpatient acute psychiatric nursing experience
  • Two (2) years of recent leadership experience as a Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or equivalent leadership role in an inpatient behavioral health setting
  • Experience managing quality metrics, productivity, staffing, regulatory compliance, and patient safety initiatives
  • Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMH-BC) preferred
  • Demonstrated success leading interdisciplinary teams in a behavioral health environment

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position.  The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
