Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs moderately complex structural engineering work to include the preparation, analysisand review of design plans, specifications, estimates and reports to comply with guidelinesset by both federal, state and local agencies.
  • Performs contract administration in the review of structural services required of engineeringconsultants and architects and make appropriate revisions and recommendations.
  • Prepares structural design plans and specifications, quality assurance plans, conceptual anddetailed cost estimates and other reports necessary for the construction, maintenance andoperation of various concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, metal, timber structures andother related materials.
  • Assists in the review of project status, initiates changes and provides advice and assistanceto structural designers and other engineering and design staff.
  • Assists in the review of structural plans and specifications, design and mathematicalcalculations in the completion of structural engineering projects and assignments as well ascreating cost and expenditure requirements for alternate means of construction.
  • Assists in the review of completed structural work for conformance to recognized standardsand feasibility of construction as well as completeness and accuracy.
  • Assists in the design and layout of foundation, floor, wall and roof framing plans for majorbuilding structures.
  • Makes recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers and construction inspectors onstructural issues during construction.
  • Analyzes environmental impact reports, negative declarations and soils tests data to makeappropriate recommendations for foundation design.
  • Prepares feasibility reports and preliminary design for proposed structures and facilities underconstruction.
  • Perform site investigations and prepare scoping reports and recommendations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in structuralengineering or civil engineering with specialization on structural engineering courses.
  • Three (3) years full-time paid professional structural engineering experience
  • Emphasis on school building construction is preferred
  • Possession of a Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) recognized by the State of CABoard of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is preferred.
