Job DetailsJob Location: Los Angeles, CA 90012Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $125,000.00 - $145,000.00 Salary/yearPosition Summary: The Vertical Transportation Specialist II plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and code compliance of all vertical transportation systems—elevators, escalators, lifts—within the assigned region. This position provides expert technical oversight, guidance, and support to property and project managers, ensuring conformance with national codes, standards, and GSA’s National VT Program requirements.  The Specialist II is responsible for conducting inspections, reviewing maintenance practices, supporting modernization projects, maintaining accurate asset inventories, and recommending improvements to ensure the continued performance and safety of the region’s vertical transportation portfolio. Essential Functions: Guides and supports regional property and project managers on all VT program matters. Assists the AHJ in implementing and maintaining regional VT processes aligned with national codes and policies. Serves as the region’s technical adviser for VT operations, maintenance, and project planning. Conducts QEI-1 certified inspections and enforces compliance with ASME A17.1 and ANSI/ASME standards. Ensures inspections and test documentation align with PBS (Public Building Services) policies and local code requirements. Reviews and approves third-party inspection, maintenance, and condition survey reports. Oversees or supports repairs, modernizations, and new VT installations, ensuring technical standards are met. Coordinates project activities with stakeholders and contractors; advises on technical feasibility and safety compliance. Participates in business planning processes to prioritize and fund capital VT projects. Develops and maintains a detailed regional inventory of VT equipment and condition ratings. Uses GSA’s National Computerized Maintenance Management System (NCMMS) to ensure accurate asset tracking. Analyzes service call logs and performance data to assess system reliability and inform maintenance priorities. Acts as primary liaison between GSA and VT contractors for maintenance and repair contracts. Provides expert input to resolve contract performance issues and recommends service improvements. Collaborates with regional divisions and national teams on VT strategies and compliance initiatives. QualificationsQualifications: Current and valid Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) Certification from the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) or equivalent authority. In-depth knowledge of ASME A17.1, ANSI, and other national codes related to elevator and escalator safety and operations. Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance documentation. Skilled in analyzing inspection data, maintenance trends, and contractor performance metrics. Ability to evaluate technical specifications, analyze maintenance data and inspection reports, and identify equipment deficiencies Ability to explain technical principles related to Vertical Transportation Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to technical detail. Ability to organize and analyze design data, manage multiple tasks, and function effectively in a team environment.   Your Experience: Must be a U.S. Citizen Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical systems, or related field preferred 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in vertical transportation systems
