The Loading Dock Supervisor is responsible for leading daily loading dock operations for an event rental warehouse. The Loading Dock Supervisor ensures inventory is loaded and unloaded safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role emphasizes strong leadership, teamwork, operational efficiency, and safety compliance. The Loading Dock Supervisor oversees loading dock staff, manages labor productivity and payroll, ensures adherence to OSHA regulations, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to support warehouse and dispatch operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop loading dock personnel
  • Lead daily shift meetings to communicate order priorities, operational updates, and safety expectations
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and a culture of safety within the department
  • Provide ongoing training on handling inventory, loading/unloading procedures, and other best practices
  • Support employee engagement and recognize strong performance

Operations

  • Coordinate daily dock schedules to ensure efficient loading and unloading of inventory
  • Ensure outbound and inbound inventory counts are accurate
  • Optimize workflow and dock utilization to maximize productivity and minimize delays
  • Collaborate with warehouse operations to meet operational goals
  • Monitor and report productivity metrics
  • Implement operational improvements to increase efficiency

Safety

  • Educate and enforce all warehouse safety standards, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and hazard assessments at all loading docks and relevant work areas
  • Lead incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action implementation
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through training, coaching, and daily safety messaging.

Labor Management

  • Manage timekeeping, time of requests, and attendance tracking for loading dock personnel
  • Monitor staffing levels and labor utilization to control overtime while maintaining operational needs
  • Schedule to ensure that there is adequate coverage especially during peak seasons
  • Maintain accurate labor and timecard records

Reporting

  • Provide regular operation updates and performance reports to senior leadership
  • Track and report key performance indicators
  • Communicate operational challenges and recommend solutions
  • Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives such as Gemba Walks and utilize SDQP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Production) metrics

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or business preferred

Experience

  • 3-5 years of warehouse, shipping, or dock operations experience
  • 1-3 years of superivsor experience in a warehouse environment required

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations
  • Ability to coordinate oversight over multiple loading docks, routes, and crew schedules simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), Microsoft Office, or similar software

Preferred Certifications

  • Forklift Certification
  • OSHA Safety Training
  • Process improvement training
