Job Description:

The Radiologic Tech performs all radiographic examinations according to establish protocols set forth by the medical director. The Radiologic Tech maintains a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.   The Radiologic Tech maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations.   The Radiologic Tech prepares for and assists the radiologist with intricate radiographic examinations.  The Radiologic Tech will prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure as well as state and federal regulations                      

Essential Functions

  • Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification.
  • Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure.
  • Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed.
  • Produces images according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, at patients’ bedside, ER, and surgery with a high degree of accuracy,
  • Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of lead shields, collimation, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years
  • Prepares for and assists Physicians with intricate radiographic examinations.
  • Ensures examinations are performed, completed, and ready for physician interpretation.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services.
  • Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Instructs Radiologic Technology students in the radiographic positioning, technique, and film critique.
  •  Presents a positive image of the hospital and department.
  • Assists in quality improvement programs in the department
  • Maintains appropriate credentials and certifications related to clinical performance and ensures a current copy is on file with the appropriate department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description:

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):

  • Graduate of JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology
  • ARRT Registered.
  • KY Radiation Operator certification (KBMIRT)
  • BLS

Experience (required and preferred):

  • One (1) year of experience as a general radiographer preferred but not required.
