We have an opening for a HV Substation SCADA &Ā MeteringĀ Engineer. You willĀ provideĀ critical technical insight forĀ the design, testing, commissioning, andĀ placing in service ofĀ HV substation SCADA systems andĀ complex revenue and controls metering schemes for the integration of PV, BESS,Ā and Wind renewable projects.Ā Ā 


PrimaryĀ ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • Review, comment,Ā and approveĀ SCADA systemsĀ designs, communication architectures, input/output schematics, and point assignmentsĀ in accordance withĀ applicable codes, standards, and procedures.Ā 

  • Review, comment, and approve configurations ofĀ data concentrators, RTUs, HMIs, switches, and other SCADA-related devices.Ā 

  • Support on-site commissioningĀ and point-to-point testingĀ ofĀ substations'Ā SCADA systems.Ā 

  • Review electrical drawings toĀ interpret signal lists and develop SCADA graphics.Ā 

  • Review, comment, and approve integration ofĀ SCADA systems to substation devices, relays, DFR, and metersĀ utilizingĀ various SCADA protocols.Ā 

  • Review,Ā comment, and approveĀ FAT and SAT test plansĀ developed by EPC contractors.Ā 

  • Become Knowledgeable with various Utilities, ISOs,Ā and industry standards.Ā 

  • Coordinate and lead with third-partyĀ consultantsĀ the metering scheme for Solar, BESS, and Wind Power plants, following interconnection agreement and power purchasing agreement requirements.Ā Ā 

  • Coordinate with other in-house engineering teams, such as substation engineering,Ā SCADA, and OT, to ensure the proper installation, testing, and configuration of revenue and control meters and theirĀ subsequentĀ connection to AES’s metering platform.Ā Ā 

  • Provide input to early substation designs, consideringĀ the numberĀ of meters and their respective location and purpose.Ā Ā 

  • Coordinate with the development, origination, commercial, and interconnection teams, the proper metering scheme logic, following local power utility requirementsĀ for auxiliary powerĀ andĀ overallĀ loss compensation schemes.Ā 

  • PerformĀ routine QA/QC data quality checks on output meter data to ensureĀ accurateĀ and reliable data to be used on multipleĀ subsequentĀ workstreams, such as generation forecasts and generation actuals.Ā Ā 

  • GainĀ proficiencyĀ in the software needed to collect, analyze, and report data forĀ accurateĀ MWh generation across the power plant fleet.Ā 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally withĀ accounting and performance engineering toĀ create efficient andĀ accurateĀ generation dashboards.Ā Ā 

QualificationsĀ 

  • Bachelor’s or an associate'sĀ degreeĀ in Electrical or Computer EngineeringĀ , or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ā 

  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems, DNP3, Ethernet, IP Networks, and serial communication.Ā 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ā 

  • Willing to travel to supportĀ the commissioningĀ team.Ā 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in utilities or Power System SCADA.Ā 

  • Experience with TCP/IP, DNP3,Ā MODBUS, OPC/UA, and SEL protocols.Ā 

  • Familiar with authentication servers, virtual machines, and various operating system configurations.Ā 

  • Strong understanding of SCADA system integration.Ā 

  • Strong organizational skills withĀ the abilityĀ to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Ā 

  • Advanced problem-solving skills.Ā 

  • Experience with field-level system integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.Ā 

  • Experience with metering systems or related utilityĀ meter dataĀ managementĀ technologiesĀ is an asset.Ā 

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, evaluate, and interpretĀ meterĀ data.Ā 

  • Familiarity withĀ metering schemesĀ such as MV90.Ā 

  • High-level understanding ofĀ the design and operations ofĀ Solar, BESS, WindĀ Power Plants.Ā Ā 

  • Familiarity with at least one SCADA PlatformĀ forĀ Renewable Energy, other platforms outside of Renewables will be considered an asset.  

  • Familiarity with grid interconnection SCADA telemetry and control requirements across various markets and ISOs including CAISO, NYISO, PJM,Ā MISOĀ and ERCOT  

  • Experience in integration of various devices, including Substation Devices (RTACs, Relays, Meters), Array Devices (Inverters, Trackers, Met Stations, BESS) and remote RTUs from Utilities and other 3rd Parties.  

  • Experience with energy management software and energy management systems, with strong computer skills using spreadsheet and word processing software.Ā 

  • Experience in project management or construction environment.Ā 

  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills to address moderately complex problems.Ā 

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical or operational informationĀ in a strongly cross-functional environment.Ā Ā 

Qualifications We DesireĀ 

  • Experience working on SCADA platforms such as GE, EATON,Ā andĀ SEL.Ā 

  • Configuration tools:Ā SMP Tools,Ā AcSELeratorĀ Quickset, RTAC.Ā 

  • LAN hardware fromĀ CISCO, Moxa, Hirschmann, and SEL.Ā 

  • Protocol analyzers such asĀ ASE2000 andĀ Wireshark.Ā 

  • IEC 61850 implementation.Ā 

  • Inductive Automation Ignition platform.Ā 

  • Protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, OPC/UA, SEL, and IEC 61850.Ā 

  • High voltage experience for electricĀ utilities,Ā and renewables.Ā 

  • Ethernet and IP networks, and serial communications.Ā 

  • FamiliarityĀ with Itron MV90xi meter data management software.Ā 

  • Significant experienceĀ with MS Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools (GIS, Python)Ā would be considered an asset.Ā 

  • Knowledge of relevant building codes, energy standards, and regulations including experience and/or knowledge of DOE metering standards and requirements

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $113,000 and $141,525/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave).
