Academics - AnthropologyJob Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at Dickinson College invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting position at the rank of assistant professor in Mediterranean archaeology for the 2026-2027 academic year. We seek an archaeologist (PhD or ABD required) with specialization in the archaeology of the Mediterranean region, broadly defined.
The teaching load for the position is five courses for the year. The ideal candidate will teach, in Fall 2026, a practical course in Archaeological Methods (using our Keck archaeology lab) and Greek Art and Archaeology. In Spring 2027, they will teach Greek Art and Archaeology and two topics courses: a sophomore-level course in Mediterranean archaeology, and one upper division course that emphasizes theory. The two topics courses will be in the candidate’s area of expertise and will be decided in consultation with the department. Courses contribute to the majors in archaeology, anthropology, and classical studies and may also contribute to college initiatives in sustainability, global diversity, and civic engagement. We seek a candidate who can thrive in a department that includes anthropology and anthropological archaeology. The department seeks outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional teaching and research.
