Job Description Summary:

Job Description:

Provides health care services, applying radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment in accordance with established practices and procedures. Obtains patient history, explains routine procedures, and addresses patient concerns.   Responsible for maintaining patient record and files. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures.   The Nuclear Medicine Technologist maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and imaging technique.   The Nuclear Medicine Technologist complies with guidelines set forth by accrediting bodies.  The Nuclear Medicine Technologist supports the mission of the hospital and department by excellent customer relations skills.   

Essential Functions:

  • Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification.
  • Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure
  • Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed.
  • Produces scans according to established protocols within the Nuclear Medicine Department with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Evaluates finished images for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality.
  • Discusses technical findings with Radiologist
  • Ensures examinations are complete to include, Cerner completion and PACS review.
  • Instructs Radiology Residents and students in the Nuclear Medicine scanning protocols (depending on facility)
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services
  • Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures.
  • Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure customer expectations are met including flexibility in schedule hours
  • Assist in quality improvement programs in the department.
  • Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital.
  • Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly.

Additional Job Description:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology (required)

Experience:

  • 2 years prior Nuclear Medicine Technology experience (preferred)

Licensure:

  • Possess and maintain certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine Technology (N), OR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) upon hire into position.
  • State of Kentucky License required.

Certification:

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (required)
