Job Description Summary:

Job Description:

The Interventional Technologist scrubs in and assists the physician in the interventional radiology procedure. The IR Technologist circulates within the procedure room and procures all equipment needed for procedures. The IR Technologist maintains a high degree of accuracy and awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with any invasive procedure. The IR Technologist will position patients, select exposure parameters, contrast injectors according to protocols specific to both patient and examination. The IR Technologist demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, interventional supplies, and equipment.

Essential Functions:

• In conjunction with the IR team, uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification.
• Prepares for procedure by setting up exam tray using principles of sterile technique.
• Prepares, sets, and implements appropriate technical parameters such as generator, power injectors, and digital imaging equipment.
• Produces images according to established protocols within Imaging/Interventional Department.
• Evaluates images for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality.
• Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of lead shields, collimation, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years.
• Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat and orderly.
• Ensures examinations are complete to include, images and appropriate paperwork are together, exam logged in computer system as well as supplies charged in computer system and/or pyxis system.
• Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services.
• Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures.
• Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities.
• Presents a positive image of the hospital and department upholding Core Behavioral Standards.
• Assist in quality improvement programs in the department.
• Maintains appropriate credentials and certifications related to clinical practice and ensures current copy is on file with department/hospital.
• Promotes a collaborative practice atmosphere with other members of the healthcare team.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Graduate of approved program in Radiologic Technology.
