Position Summary

The Lead Spray Technician is the senior hands-on installer on each job site — responsible for operating spray foam equipment, applying product to spec, and directing a small crew of helpers/installers through the job. This role requires deep technical knowledge of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) application, equipment operation and troubleshooting, and jobsite safety. The Lead Tech sets the standard for workmanship and safety that the rest of the crew follows.

Key Responsibilities

Application & Technical Work

  • Operate spray rig equipment to apply open-cell, closed-cell, and injection foam per manufacturer and job specifications
  • Read and interpret job specs, blueprints, and scope sheets to determine correct foam type, thickness, and coverage areas
  • Monitor chemical ratios, temperatures, and pressures to ensure proper foam cure and adhesion
  • Identify and correct application issues in real time (off-ratio foam, poor adhesion, insufficient thickness, thermal barrier gaps)
  • Perform substrate prep, masking, and containment setup prior to spraying
  • Apply intumescent/thermal barrier coatings where required by code
Crew Leadership

  • Lead a crew of 1–3 helpers/installers on daily job assignments
  • Assign tasks, pace the job, and keep work on schedule within the day's route
  • Train junior technicians and helpers on proper technique, equipment handling, and safety procedures
  • Serve as the on-site safety leader, always ensuring PPE use and hazard awareness
Equipment & Materials

  • Perform daily equipment checks, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting on rigs, hoses, guns, and proportioners
  • Flag equipment issues or wear to the Project Manager before they cause downtime
  • Manage chemical drum handling, changeovers, and waste disposal per protocol
  • Track material usage against job estimates
Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all OSHA 29 CFR 1926 safety requirements including respiratory protection, PPE, hazard communication, and confined space procedures
  • Wear and maintain proper respiratory protection (cartridge respirators per SDS requirements) at all times during spraying
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
  • Maintain current spray foam certification and respirator fit test records
Customer Site Conduct

  • Represent the company professionally on active job sites, including occupied homes and active construction sites
  • Communicate job progress and any access/scope issues to the Project Manager
  • Leave job sites clean and free of overspray, masking debris, and material waste
Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on spray polyurethane foam (SPF) application experience
  • Working knowledge of proportioner/rig equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Understanding of OSHA safety standards, particularly respiratory protection and PPE requirements
  • Ability to read job specs and identify correct foam type/thickness by application
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Comfortable working in attics, crawl spaces, and other confined or elevated areas for extended periods
Preferred

  • Spray foam manufacturer certification (e.g., Huntsman, BASF, Lapolla, Icynene)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience training or leading junior installers
  • Experience with new construction and retrofit/retro-fill applications
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and carry equipment/hoses across job sites
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in tight, elevated, or confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces)
  • Ability to wear a respirator and full PPE for extended periods, including in hot/humid conditions
  • Extended periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and overhead spraying
Compensation & Benefits

  • Highly competitive hourly/salary pay, commensurate with experience [insert range]
  • Performance/quality bonuses tied to job completion and callback rates
  • [Health insurance, PTO, or other benefits — customize based on your offering]
  • Growth opportunity into Project Manager or supervisory roles as the franchise expands
Work Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday with occasional Saturday work based on job volume
  • Daily travel throughout the Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, and Fayetteville territory; occasional travel to Fort Smith as territory expands
  • Early morning start times common to beat heat during summer attic/crawlspace work
