Position Overview

CorrHealth is seeking a motivated, adaptable, and clinically skilled Travel Mental Health Clinician to provide behavioral health services across correctional healthcare facilities in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming.

This position is ideal for a licensed mental health professional who enjoys variety, travel, and making a meaningful impact by supporting behavioral health teams where coverage is most needed. The Travel Mental Health Clinician will receive orientation and training at each assigned facility and provide clinical coverage during staff vacations, leaves of absence, vacancies, program expansion, and other operational needs.

CorrHealth recognizes that mental health licensure is state-specific and is committed to assisting the selected candidate with obtaining licensure in multiple states as needed.

Essential Job Duties

βœ“ Provide comprehensive behavioral health services in accordance with facility policies, professional standards, and applicable state regulations

βœ“ Complete mental health assessments, crisis evaluations, suicide risk assessments, and clinical follow-up appointments

βœ“ Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans

βœ“ Respond to behavioral health emergencies and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams

βœ“ Maintain timely, accurate, and legally sound clinical documentation within the electronic health record; provides accessibility of notes for staff, and ensures transfer of information by maintaining organized and legible notes

βœ“ Become familiar with each assigned facility's policies, procedures, and operational workflows through site-specific orientation

βœ“ Support continuity of care during staffing transitions and temporary coverage assignments

βœ“ Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with NCCHC standards and CorrHealth policies

βœ“ Identifies mental health symptoms and treatment needs, including (if necessary) special housing or watch, and makes recommendations to healthcare unit and security staff

βœ“ Coordinates closely with MD, Prescriber, Psychiatrist, and any other necessary staff to ensure evaluation/care of patient

βœ“ Identifies, recommends, and conducts non-pharmacological treatments when appropriate and/or applicable

βœ“ Provides mental health crisis and suicide intervention and management for facility

βœ“ Provides clinical supervision and treatment plans for inmates on caseload

βœ“ Monitors conditions and treatment needs of special inmate population

βœ“ Provides staff training in relevant mental health issues

βœ“ Attends regular treatment team multidisciplinary meetings, classification meetings, or other required administrative meetings, as well as participating in CQI and/or QA studies and group sessions

βœ“ Provides consultation to security and healthcare staff regarding patient behavior, safety concerns, or other mental health concerns

βœ“ Able to provide linkage and/or discharge planning services when necessary/appropriate

βœ“ When applicable, participates in treatment programming and planning discussions of problem cases, follow-up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input

βœ“ When applicable, initiates involuntary hospitalization for those inmates who need to be transferred to outside mental health facilities; generates appropriate paperwork relevant to the hospitalization

This position requires frequent travel to correctional healthcare facilities throughout:

βœ“ New Mexico

βœ“ Texas

βœ“ Wyoming

Travel assignments may vary in duration depending on operational needs. Transportation and lodging will be coordinated in accordance with CorrHealth travel policies.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements

βœ“ Master's degree in Clinical Psychology or related field: MA Clinical Psych, MA Counseling, MA Clinical Social Work

βœ“ Licensed in state of employment: LCPC, LPC, LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, LMFT

βœ“ 2-5 years post-degree and post-licensure clinical experience, preferred

βœ“ Correctional mental health experience is preferred

Schedule Requirements

The schedule is determined by the operational needs of the assigned facility.

Candidates should generally expect:

βœ“ Full-time employment

βœ“ Monday through Friday schedule for most assignments

βœ“ Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday coverage when necessary to support facility operations

βœ“ Flexibility to adjust schedules based on staffing needs and assignment requirements

Because this is a travel-based position, assignments and schedules may change with advance notice based on organizational needs.

βœ“ Must have flexible availability both days and nights seven (7) days a week

βœ“ Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. for this position

βœ“ Must have current CPR/BLS certification

βœ“ Must have current TB test (taken within one year)

βœ“ Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures as well as the policies and procedures listed in the Employee Handbook

βœ“ Willing to assist coworkers in the job duties and work overtime if required; may act as a resource to other coworkers

βœ“ Maintains confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA requirements

βœ“ Ability to stay calm in stressful and demanding situations

βœ“ Frequently transports objects up to 50 pounds

Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of riskΒ and/or harm by inmates including exposure to blood borne pathogens. Employee is expected toΒ work in accordance with all security rules and regulations to minimize the risk of danger and/orΒ harm to themselves or other employees.
