Supported Living Services (SLS) Direct Support Staff

Location: Lake County, CA
Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Reports To: SLS Lead / Program Manager

Position Summary

Supported Living Services (SLS) Direct Support Staff provide person-centered support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities who live independently in their own homes and communities. Staff assist individuals in achieving their personal goals, increasing independence, maintaining health and safety, and participating fully in community life.

This position requires compassionate, reliable individuals who are committed to promoting dignity, respect, choice, and self-determination while following agency policies and applicable state and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support based on each person's goals, needs, and Individual Service Plan (ISP).
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including meal planning, meal preparation, household maintenance, budgeting, shopping, and transportation.
  • Support individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills.
  • Encourage community involvement, socialization, and participation in recreational activities.
  • Promote self-advocacy, personal choice, and decision-making.
  • Provide support with medical appointments and follow health-related recommendations as directed.
  • Follow California in-home supportive care recommendations, best practices, safety procedures, and agency protocols.
  • Observe, document, and report significant changes, concerns, incidents, or health and safety issues to appropriate supervisors.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly, and at the time services are provided.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, family members, service providers, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and individual needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer and technology skills, including the ability to use electronic documentation systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and assigned schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred but not required:

  • Experience in human services, social services, caregiving, or developmental disability services.
  • Experience providing In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS).
  • Medical, healthcare, behavioral health, or direct support experience.
  • Knowledge of person-centered practices and independent living support.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in residential and community settings.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, and perform physical activities required to support individuals served.
  • Ability to safely assist individuals as trained and authorized by agency policies.

Work Environment

Services are provided primarily in individuals' homes and community settings. Staff may be required to travel between service locations and participate in community-based activities.

Starting Pay: $19.60-$21.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated competencies. Candidates with directly related education, advanced certifications, leadership experience, or specialized expertise in developmental disabilities services may be considered for compensation above the starting range, commensurate with education and/or experience.
