Job Summary: Ensure and enhance the health and well-being of our Residents by serving and assisting with preparation of nutritious meals and snacks according to each Resident’s individual requirements and care plan. 


Dietary Functions

  • Implements menus for regular and special diets, following interventions in resident care plans
  • Cooks and serves breakfast, serves lunch, supper, coffee and snacks to Residents
  • Records food and other temperatures related to food safety as required by state and federal regulations
  • Loads and operates commercial dishwashers, monitoring and recording correct equipment temperatures
  • Cleans dining rooms and sculleries, maintaining a sanitary and orderly work environment
  • Washes and refills water pitchers from resident rooms
  • May assist in transporting Residents to and from activities
  • Assists with setup for special occasions and events
  • Follows all routines and procedures related to food safety, infection control, and dress code
  • Follows standard precautions and works within OSHA guidelines
  • Immediately reports any suspected abuse or neglect of Residents per facility policy
  • Reports any equipment malfunction to the designated staff member 

Personnel Functions

  • Attends designated staff meetings as scheduled
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with other staff, whether within the dietary department or inter-departmental personnel
  • Completes assigned training in a timely manner 
  • Utilizes materials and supplies in an efficient, cost-effective manner
  • Remains free of criminal conviction that may preclude employment in the nursing home setting (including but not limited to theft, battery, assault)
  • Reports any pending criminal or civil charges or matters to the Administrator by the next business day
  • Always represents the United Pioneer Home in a positive manner unless contraindicated by law
  • Learns and follows fire and other work safety policies
  • Follows all facility policies and procedures
  • Follows the direction of the Dietary Manager, Administrator and/or Director of Nursing
  • Performs other duties as qualified for and as directed



Requirements

Qualifications

  • Able to communicate fluently in written and spoken English
  • Able to follow directions and recipes, and to read labels and instructions
  • Minimum age 16

Other Skills and Abilities required

  • Demonstrated concern for the elderly and ability to treat Residents with respect and dignity
  • Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of Resident information, per HIPAA regulations
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritize duties and to understand and follow work assignments
  • Ability to understand and follow interventions in Resident diets and care plans 
  • Customer service oriented
  • Adequate strength and endurance to operate commercial dishwashers
  • Ability to work as scheduled and adapt to changes in bi-weekly work schedule

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling, and stooping movements for up to 8 hours per shift
  • Able to bend, squat, and do repetitive shoulder/arm motions
  • Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds
  • Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
  • Remain free of illegal drug use and signs of impairment as per facility policy
