JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE Oversees the health, safety, environmental and quality programs of the Vermont Operations and inactive Vermont locations. Monitors and oversees operational and administrative compliance with federal, state, and company rules, regulations, and guidelines, as it relates to health, safety, environmental, and quality systems. |
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Fully supports the location health, safety, and environmental and quality (HSEQ) programs by overseeing their implementation, maintenance and enforcement as well as compliance with Corporate programs and policies.Â
- Ensures the proper maintenance of HSEQ systems. Identifies and promotes opportunities to integrate HSEQ management systems. Provides leadership and support of systems integration efforts.
- Ensures all required HSEQ testing is properly conducted and equipment maintained. Will conduct as needed.
- Oversees compliance in the lab and supports lab personnel
- Confers with operations personnel to ensure HSEQ activities are coordinated with those groups to obtain optimum safety, product quality, production and utilization of human resources and equipment.Â
- Assists in the development and implementation of HSEQ policies and procedures to be followed by Company and contractor personnel in compliance with Magris Talc standards and programs, and local, state, and federal regulations.Â
- Confers with mine and plant operations personnel to insure HSEQ activities are coordinated with those groups to obtain optimum safety, product quality, production and utilization of human resources and equipment.
- Conducts/coordinates planned general inspections, HSEQ meetings, regulatory record keeping audits and integrated system audits.Â
- Assists in the investigation and coordination of corrective action plan for accidents, injuries, environmental incidents, quality non conformances and customer complaints.
- Oversees the review of capital projects at the facilities for potential health, safety, environmental and product quality risks.
- Oversees the administration of the location Worker’s Compensation Program by working closely with injured employees and Magris Talc Safety and Human Resources personnel.
- Conducts/schedules training programs that will increase proficiency in safe and healthy work practices and promote awareness of HSEQ standards and programs.
- Prepares the reports on HSEQ activities of programs and submission of applicable documents and statistics to regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the HSEQ records including product specifications. Ensure the distribution and communication of any new and revised product specifications
- Makes presentations to managers and employees, interfaces with community groups, and responds to concerns from managers, employees, regulatory agencies and the general public.
- Maintains courteous, professional relationships with company line and staff functions, outside contractors, government agencies and the general public.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and Experience requirements: - Experience in Health and Safety within a Mining or Manufacturing organization requiredÂ
- Environmental experience and/or training required
- Experience in a quality role required
- Bachelor’s degree related to environmental, safety or quality fields preferred
 Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics: - Organizational skills will be necessary for organizing HSEQ activities, scheduling and conducting meetings
- Analytical and statistical skills are needed to evaluate and analyze data and ensure compliance
- Computer skills are required to manage and utilize data management and HSEQ softwareÂ
- Communication and interpersonal skills are necessary in order to work with both internal and external personnel without major conflicts and maintain teamwork at the company’s locations
- Leadership skills are needed to ensure that all employees and contractors work toward common corporate/location goals and objectives
- Administrative skills are required to manage paperwork, meet reporting requirements, oversee the management of various systems, and ensure that employees and contractors have the resources needed to execute their activities safely and efficiently
- Self-motivation is necessary to ensure that the work progresses without constant supervision
- Planning skills are needed to ensure HSEQ activities are effectively developed and maintained and that the timely completion of programs satisfy legal and corporate objectives
- Financial skills are necessary to evaluate HSEQ related projects and improvement ideas
- Training and team building skills will be needed to improve individual competencies as well as develop focused group action

SPECIFIC ASPECTS - Work to be performed outside in all weather conditions and seasons for periods of time
- Lifting samples and using sample preparation equipment can require lifting up to 50 pounds
- Need to be able to navigate uneven ground conditions on foot and in company vehiclesÂ
