Join The Nutrition Group as an Assistant Kitchen Manager serving Upper Dauphin Area Middle School in our K–12 school nutrition program. In this rewarding role, you will support the daily operation of the school kitchen by preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals that help students succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Working alongside the Kitchen Manager and culinary team, you will assist with meal preparation, food service, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. You will also help oversee daily kitchen operations and serve as the Kitchen Manager in their absence to ensure smooth and efficient service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting, and takes pride in providing exceptional service to students throughout the K–12 school community.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager with daily kitchen operations and other assigned duties.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve breakfast and lunch according to approved menus and food safety guidelines.
  • Perform food preparation tasks, including washing, chopping, portioning, and assembling ingredients.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, serving area, and workspace.
  • Wash dishes, clean kitchen equipment, and assist with routine kitchen maintenance.
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion sizes to ensure consistency.
  • Receive, store, label, and rotate food and supplies using proper inventory procedures.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Serve as acting Kitchen Manager when needed to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Help coordinate daily workflow and support kitchen staff to maintain efficient meal service.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious, appealing meals to students in a K–12 educational environment.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating strong teamwork, flexibility, and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Previous food service or kitchen experience is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and carrying.
  • Reliable, dependable, and committed to providing excellent customer service.
  • A positive attitude and a passion for serving children in a school setting.
