Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Graduate Assistant (GSA or TA) works on campus in an academic support role for the University. These roles can range from teaching your own classes, overseeing students, grading academic assignments, scheduling, sending emails, lecturing, etc. The Graduate Assistant works a maximum of 20 hours per week (12m - 1040) throughout their contracted time length.

A History Graduate Student Assistant (GSA) must be in the residential History MA program. History GSAs work approximately 20 hours (10 residential, 10 online) per week while taking graduate residential courses. Each GSA will be assigned to a residential faculty member(s) to assist in grading papers and in-class essays for selected residential undergraduate classes. They will also facilitate undergraduate online classes as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Working under the direction and supervision of the professor to whom the GSA is assigned.

2. Assisting in the grading of written assignments such as essays, papers, tests, etc. 

3. Providing interaction with and availability to students at a more personal level.

4. Maintaining regular office hours throughout the week to assist students within their classes.

5. When appropriate, teaching for the professor of the class section in which the GSA is assisting.

6. Facilitating section/s of online courses under a supervising teacher of record.

7. Other duties as assigned by the department or school.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

2. Accepted or in the process of being accepted into the residential History Graduate Program at Liberty University.

3. Present good academic standing.

4. Basic computer skills.

5. Good organizational and communication skills.
