The Research Assistant will assist with department research projects. The Research Assistant works under direct supervision of a School of Engineering faculty member. The Research Assistant is assigned duties and carries out research objectives and tasks as outlined by the faculty member based on the research. While supervised, the Research Assistant will be expected to follow guidelines and protocols for safe lab operation as well as to continue developing a good understanding of lab manuals and laboratory terminology. If using simulation codes, the Research Assistant will assume responsibility for proper operations of the computing facility. Off hours and weekend work may be required but must have authorization from the faculty advisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering Liberty University’s mission.

2. Maintain safe work environment.

3. Learn and follow lab procedures to be able effectively schedule, organize, and report on the status of conducted research.

4. Maintain accurate records of conducted research based on the adopted tools and techniques.

5. Become proficient in performing routine tasks assigned by the Faculty member.

6. Conduct literature reviews.

7. Assist faculty in preparing materials for publications and presentations.

8. Write progress reports.

9. Meet with faculty supervisor to maintain an ongoing assessment of the performance.

10. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

Current enrollment in the undergraduate degree program. Satisfactory academic progress (3.0 or higher GPA). Prior focus on science and math curriculum in high school.
