Job DetailsJob Location: Rice Community Hospital - Lyons, KS 67554Position Type: Full Time   Job Title: Patient Services Representative - Clinic Department: Lyons Family Care/Sterling Family Care Reports to: Clinic Manager and Director of Clinic Operations FLSA: Non-Exempt   SUMMARY:  Schedules, greets, instructs and directs patients and visitors.  Serves as liaison between patient and medical support staff.  Collects information and documents from patients, ensuring they are accurate and complete.  Receiving and transferring faxed and paper documents into electronic medical record quickly and accurately.  Safeguarding patient records and ensuing compliance with HIPAA regulations.  TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Work is performed in an office reception area. Involves frequent contact with patients, both on the phone and in the reception area.  Work may be stressful at times.  Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.  Contact involves dealing with sick people and, at times, irate patients.  Work requires sitting for periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies.  Occasionally, lifting files or paper weight up to 50 pounds.  Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, copier and other office equipment as necessary.  Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contact.  It is necessary to view and type on computers and to work in an environment which can be stressful.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepare office for daily activities, such as, preparing charts for patient visits. Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Registers patients, verifies and updates necessary information for their record.  Assists patients in completing paperwork, as needed. Schedules appointments following scheduling guidelines.  Maintains schedules in computer. Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides non-medical information. Receives payments and provides receipts.  Asks for co-pay and payments on accounts as appropriate. Accurate preparation of daily bank deposit.  Prepares and delivers necessary paperwork for patients to lab area. Maintains fax que by receiving and saving received documents in appropriate areas of patient charts.  Responds to Release of Information requests from other facilities, sending files via mail or fax in a timely manner. Requests and receives records from other facilities and appropriately saves in patients EMR. Scans paper documents into EMR, accurately placing documents into the appropriate area of patient chart.  PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize duties.  Knowledge of computer and typing skills.  Ability to perform effectively and respectfully during stressful situations.  Must have ability to maintain patient confidentiality about condition, appointment and financial arrangements.     EDUCATION:  High school diploma or equivalent necessary.  Medical Records training and medical terminology is desirable.
