Mercer Votes Summer InternJob Description:
Help empower new students to become active participants in our democracy! The Center for Engaged Learning is recruiting a summer intern to assist with nonpartisan voter registration, voter education, and student outreach during summer orientation and Opening Day.
The selected intern(s) will staff the Mercer Votes table during summer orientation resource fairs, scheduled from 1:15–4:15 p.m. in Heritage Hall. Interns will help welcome incoming students and families, share nonpartisan voter registration and voting resources, encourage students to make a voting plan, and connect students with Mercer Votes opportunities for continued engagement.
In addition to summer orientation support, the intern(s) will assist with data collection and outreach tracking to help Mercer Votes evaluate the reach and effectiveness of its efforts. Responsibilities may include tracking student interactions, recording pledge-to-vote or voter registration interest, organizing sign-up information, and helping to summarize key takeaways from outreach events.
Intern(s) may also support Mercer Votes tabling during Opening Day, Mercer’s first-year student move-in experience, by helping distribute voting information, answering basic questions, and encouraging new students to begin their Mercer experience with a commitment to civic participation. All work will be strictly nonpartisan and focused on reducing barriers to student voter registration, education, and turnout.
Requirements:
Must be a current Mercer University student in good academic standing. Ideal candidates should be available for all six summer orientation sessions- June 12, June 15, June 17, June 19, June 22, and June 24. You might be a good fit for this role if you are passionate about civic engagement and enjoy speaking with people and sharing helpful information.
Pay Rate:
Each Mercer Votes Summer Intern will receive a $550 stipend; roughly $21-23/hour for approximately 24-26 hours of work.
