Madison Wood’s Post Plant manufactures Virginia Field Pine posts from full-length logs and plays a vital role in our operations. This position is an entry level position that understands how to properly work sorting/counting posts and/or running stationary or rolling equipment with supervision in a fast-paced outdoor/industrial environment. This position consistently works 48-hour workweeks throughout the year.

The role involves hands-on manual labor and stationary equipment operation as well as opportunities to operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, knuckle booms, and forklifts depending on training and operational needs. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operate stationary production machinery

  • Maneuver, lift, and stack large wooden posts and lumber

  • Sort, count, and stage posts and lumber for production and orders

  • Strap and band posts or lumber units for safe handling and transport

  • Operate pneumatic and power tools

  • Operate forklifts and other heavy equipment as trained and assigned

  • Shovel and clean debris to maintain safe work areas

  • Inspect and grade lumber for quality and specifications

  • Apply end tags using pneumatic tools

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of production and work areas

  • Perform additional production-related duties as assigned

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week)

  • Ability to work overtime, extended hours, weekends, or alternate shifts as business needs require

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions

  • Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces continuously for 8–10 hours per shift

  • Ability to navigate stairs, inclines, and uneven surfaces

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with and without assistance, on a frequent basis

  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including lifting/overhead lifting, reaching, bending, gripping, and material handling throughout the shift

  • Ability to safely operate power tools, forklifts, and heavy machinery

  • Ability to safely operate chainsaw

  • Ability to work around loud noise levels for extended periods of time

  • Ability to work in environments with dust, vibration, and other industrial conditions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety

  • Ability to safely operate power tools, chainsaws,  and heavy machinery

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision

  • Ability to train and assist other employees

Safety & Compliance Requirements

  • Must successfully complete all required safety training and maintain applicable equipment certifications

  • Must be able to safely perform all essential job functions without posing a direct threat to self or others
