Ring & DuChateau is seeking a Senior Building Systems Design Engineer / Designer to join our Milwaukee team. This role is intended for an experienced professional who brings strong technical expertise in building systems design (telecommunications, overhead paging, intercom, nurse call, for example) and is ready to play a leadership role on complex projects.
In this position, you will lead the design and coordination of integrated building systems that support safe, connected, and high-performing environments. You will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients, providing technical direction from concept through construction while mentoring junior staff and contributing to firm-wide standards and best practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the design and coordination of integrated building systems, including building technology, life safety, communications, and security systems.
- Serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, providing direction on system strategy, design approach, and coordination.
- Translate project goals and client requirements into coordinated, code-compliant design solutions.
- Apply and interpret applicable building codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Oversee the development and quality of construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary coordination and BIM meetings.
- Review and respond to RFIs and product submittals; support construction administration efforts.
- Conduct site visits and field observations, resolving design issues and ensuring alignment with design intent.
- Mentor and guide junior designers and engineers through technical review, coaching, and collaboration.
- Contribute to the development of internal design standards, tools, and processes.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
- 8–12+ years of experience in building systems, MEP, or technology systems design.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical design on complex projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of building codes, standards, and system integration.
- Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects while maintaining quality and schedule.
- Strong communication skills, including client and consultant coordination.
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented leadership style.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Industry certifications (such as RCDD) are not required but strongly supported and encouraged.
