Job Summary The Speech Therapist is responsible for evaluating, planning, directing, and administering Speech/Language Pathology treatment services as prescribed by a referring physician. This role provides care to inpatient and outpatient populations to restore function, improve communication and swallowing abilities, and help patients achieve their highest level of independence and quality of life. The Speech Therapist collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation teams, patients, and families to provide high-quality, evidence-based care while supporting performance improvement and quality initiatives throughout the department. Essential Functions Perform speech, language, and swallowing evaluations upon physician referral Develop individualized treatment plans and therapy goals Provide evidence-based Speech/Language Pathology treatments and interventions Perform swallowing evaluations and communicate findings promptly to the healthcare team Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, therapy goals, and home strategies Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation within the medical record Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care Identify and address patient psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs Recommend dietary modifications when necessary to reduce aspiration risk Participate in departmental quality improvement and performance improvement activities Maintain professional competency and continuing education requirements Qualifications Education & Licensure Master’s Degree from an accredited Speech/Language Pathology program required Current State Licensure in Speech Pathology required Current BCLS (CPR) certification required Preferred Experience One (1) or more years of Speech Language Pathology experience preferred Skills & Competencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and clinical assessment abilities Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care Ability to remain organized and effective in fast-paced or stressful situations Physical Requirements This position requires standing, walking, sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds using proper techniques, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, squatting, reaching, and repetitive arm-hand coordination throughout the workday. Work Environment Work is performed in both inpatient and outpatient healthcare settings with direct patient interaction.
