The team partners closely with the business as a trusted advisor, leveraging technology to maximize value, align with SWIB’s strategic direction, and operate according to industry best practices.

Position Overview

The Investment Systems Team Lead leads a team of Business Systems Engineers responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and support of SWIB’s front- and middle-office business systems, with a primary focus on the Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS/CRD) across public and private markets.

This role owns the processes, standards, and tools used by the Business Systems team and serves as a key subject matter leader for Charles River, ensuring the platform is well-architected, effectively integrated, and aligned with Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, and Compliance needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a 24x6 Business Systems Engineering team responsible for the availability, stability, and operational excellence of SWIB’s front- and middle-office investment systems, with a primary focus on the Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS/CRD).
  • Own and continuously improve the production support operating model, including on-call rotations, escalation paths, coverage models, and workload distribution, ensuring sustainability and resilience.
  • Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities are in place for Charles River and all integrated, trading-critical applications.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for major incidents and production issues, coordinating effectively across L1–L3 support teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Lead incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and problem management, driving remediation and preventative improvements.
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation to enable consistent, repeatable, and high-quality support outcomes.
  • Own and lead business continuity, disaster recovery, and resiliency planning for Charles River, including testing, validation, and ongoing readiness.
  • Serve as the platform owner and senior SME for Charles River, ensuring configurations, enhancements, and upgrades are operationally supportable, resilient, and production-ready.
  • Provide leadership for configuration, workflows, integrations, and release management, with a strong emphasis on minimizing operational and trading risk.
  • Establish and maintain testing, validation, and release standards for production changes, serving as a quality gate prior to deployment.
  • Identify platform, architectural, or integration risks and lead mitigation efforts to protect trading and investment operations.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner closely with Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams to align support priorities and platform capabilities with business needs.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships—particularly with Charles River—supporting effective incident resolution, escalation, and roadmap planning.
  • Communicate clearly and transparently with business and technology leadership during incidents, outages, recovery efforts, and major platform changes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or related field preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in the investment management industry with significant hands-on experience supporting and leading OMS implementations (Charles River preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience leading support teams, including on-call rotations, incident management, and escalation frameworks.
  • Deep functional and technical knowledge of OMS/IMS, including trading workflows, compliance, allocations, and integrations.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop, mentor, and engage technical and functional staff.
  • Strong understanding of investment operations, trading processes, and securities.
  • Experience integrating with platforms such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Aladdin, SimCorp, Eagle, and custodians (e.g., BNY Mellon).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and explain complex Charles River configurations and designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and work effectively across Trading, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design technology solutions using Charles River to meet business needs.
