Job DetailsJob Location: BMH Hill Building - Madison, WV 25130Position Type: Part Time    The Fitness Center Attendant is responsible for the daily operation, supervision, and maintenance of the Boone Memorial Health Fitness Center. This position serves as a resource for employees, spouses of employees and dependents utilizing the fitness facility by providing equipment orientation, basic fitness guidance, and wellness support while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and professional environment. The Fitness Center Attendant will also manage gym memberships, badge access, enrollment records, and assist with Employee Health & Wellness programs designed to improve employee well-being and engagement.   Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Monitor and supervise the BMH Fitness Center during assigned hours. Ensure a safe, clean, and organized fitness environment. Conduct routine inspections of fitness equipment and report maintenance concerns. Enforce Fitness Center policies and procedures. Monitor facility usage and address concerns appropriately. Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned. Process new gym enrollments and membership renewals. Verify completion of required waivers and documentation. Issue and manage gym access badges. Assist gym attendees with access-related questions and concerns. Track facility utilization and prepare participation reports as requested. Provide orientation to fitness equipment and facility amenities. Demonstrate proper and safe use of exercise equipment. Offer general wellness information and instruction on the safe operation of fitness equipment.  Encourage safe exercise practices and healthy lifestyle habits. Assist gym attendants in understanding available equipment and selecting exercises consistent with manufacturer instructions and facility guidelines. Promote participation in wellness initiatives, challenges, and events. Assist with employee wellness events and activities. Support walking challenges, fitness competitions, and wellness campaigns. Assist with wellness education and outreach efforts. Promote Employee Health & Wellness programs throughout the organization. Serve as a positive ambassador for employee wellness initiatives. Maintain confidentiality of employee information. Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Education High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Wellness Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related filed preferred Experience Experience in fitness, athletics, coaching, wellness, customer service, or a related field preferred. Experience working in a fitness center or gym environment preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of fitness equipment and exercise principles. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to motivate and encourage employees in a positive manner. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Basic computer and recordkeeping skills. Strong organizational and customer service skills. Ability to recognize and respond to medical emergencies and activate emergency response procedures.     Licensure/Certification Requirements Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within ninety (90) days of hire.Physical Demands   Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist. Ability to climb stairs and move throughout the fitness center and hospital facilities as needed. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to move and reposition fitness equipment, supplies, and furnishings as necessary. Ability to demonstrate exercises and the proper use of fitness equipment. Ability to use hands and fingers to operate equipment, computers, telephones, and badge access systems. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Visual ability sufficient to observe facility activities, read equipment displays, and identify potential safety hazards. Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels and a physically active fitness center environment.     Working Conditions   The Fitness Center Attendant works primarily in a fitness facility with frequent interaction with employees and visitors.  Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, prevention, and personal protective equipment. Scope of Limitations: The Fitness Center Attendant shall not: Diagnose, treat, or manage any medical condition. Prescribe exercise for rehabilitation following injury, surgery, or illness unless specifically authorized by a licensed healthcare provider. Recommend discontinuing, starting, or changing medications. Provide nutrition counseling for medical conditions or prescribe meal plans. Provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, massage therapy, chiropractic care, or other licensed healthcare services. Perform fitness assessments that require clinical interpretation or medical clearance. Guarantee weight loss, improved fitness, or health outcomes. Perform any service requiring professional licensure unless separately licensed and specifically authorized by Boone Memorial Health. Medical Referral: Members exhibiting any of the following should be instructed to discontinue exercise and seek evaluation by their healthcare provider or emergency medical care as appropriate: Chest pain or pressure Shortness of breath disproportionate to activity Dizziness or fainting Loss of consciousness Severe joint pain Significant injury   Compliance Statement   Employees are responsible for supporting and promoting a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and organizational compliance.
