Job Summary:

The Aquatics Professional Intern provides leadership and support to Aquatics Staff through well-planned and effectively executed trainings and in-service sessions. This role assists with regular safety audits, staff scheduling, professional development, and mentorship. Additionally, the intern is responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of aquatic student staff, while actively promoting participant safety, engagement, and overall satisfaction.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Engages in the Rec Well professional internship development curriculum, all staff meetings, divisional committees, and other professional development responsibilities and opportunities.

  • Coordinates logistics for events and programs
  • Develops targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals
  • Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures
  • Assists in implementing the staffing resource allocation plan including hiring, training, and supervision
  • Prepares and monitors budgets and purchases expenditures as needed

Work Schedule:

Typical Schedule is 9am-3pm, and includes flexible night and weekends.

Job Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and leading Americanv Red Cross Lifeguarding courses
  • Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and meet deadlines
  • Experience working in a university/college recreational sports setting
  • Experience with competitive and recreational aquatics programs

Academic Professional Internship Information:

  • Internships are limited-time employments lasting 9 months or 1,040 total hours 
  • Internship dates are approximate and will run mid-August 2026 to May 2027 

Education:

  • HS Diploma – Required
  • Bachelor's Degree - Achieve or advancing towards Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field. Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75
