Job Description

The NPI Sourcing Manager enables successful new product introductions within the Chemical Analysis Division by leading sourcing activities that support on-time launch, cost targets, and long-term supply continuity. This role partners closely with Engineering, Program Management, Quality, and Operations to align sourcing strategies with CAD product roadmaps and operational priorities.

Category knowledge in Particle Optics, mechanical components, Electronics, and Contract Manufacturing (CM) is preferred. The ideal candidate brings strong sourcing fundamentals, technical curiosity, and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions in a regulated manufacturing environment.

LOCATION: This is a fully onsite position in Madison, WI. Unfortunately, relocation assistance is NOT provided.  

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. 
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screen. 
     

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead NPI sourcing activities in support of Chemical Analysis Division programs and product development timelines

  • Partner with Engineering to influence design-for-manufacturability, design-for-cost, and design-for-supply decisions throughout the development lifecycle

  • Support supplier identification, capability assessment, and selection aligned with performance, quality, scalability, and risk objectives

  • Apply cost modeling, should-cost analysis, and negotiation strategies to support NPI cost targets and total cost of ownership goals

  • Coordinate supplier readiness activities, including tooling, qualification, PPAP/FAI, and production ramp planning

  • Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory partners to ensure suppliers meet Thermo Fisher quality system, validation, and documentation requirements

  • Support make-versus-buy decisions, dual sourcing strategies, and supply risk mitigation planning

  • Serve as the sourcing representative on NPI core teams, providing clear and timely communication on progress, risks, and opportunities

  • Support the transition of suppliers from NPI into production sourcing while maintaining continuity and performance

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen sourcing processes, supplier capability, and cross-functional execution

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline

  • Experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain, or NPI-related roles

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, matrixed organization

  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Category knowledge or sourcing experience in Particle Optics, mechanical components, Electronics, or Contract Manufacturing

  • Experience supporting new product introductions in analytical instruments, life sciences, diagnostics, or other regulated manufacturing environments

  • Familiarity with supplier qualification, validation, and quality system requirements

  • Experience working with global suppliers and cross-regional teams

  • APICS, CPSM, or similar professional certification
