General Description of Position:

Prepares and pulls molds.  Paints and applies gelcoat to mold surface which then becomes part of the finished product.  Uses and maintains spray guns.  Works with hand tools, clean and maintains spray booth.

 

Duties (Essential):

  • Prepares work order, checks for color and serial number, logs serial number, color, mold number, time and date sprayed.  Pulls molds in booth and prepares mold surface, ensuring it is free from dust, dirt, smudges or other impurities.  Checks temperature and calibrates system to set for drying time.  Checks spray gun and lines for contamination and drains water from pressure regulator daily.  Checks air pressure and adjusts for proper flow and break up.  Sprays gelcoat sample to check flow of catalyst and gelcoat pattern and makes adjustments if necessary.  Essential – 60%
  • Sprays gelcoat on mold, stopping regularly to check catalyst.  Uses mill gauge to determine gelcoat uniformity and thickness.  Removes tape and masking paper (not in Glass II), pushes mold to next work station. Essential – 25%
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and tools clean and in proper working order and cleanliness of work area.  Essential – 10%

 

Duties (Non-Essential):  

  • Performs related duties as assigned.  Nonessential – 5%



Education & Work Experience: Prefer a minimum of one year of previous experience in gelcoat.  Must be able to work with paint and gelcoating and to use various hand tools.  Must be able to read and follow instructions.  Requires some math skills.

 

Environmental and Working Conditions:  Moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.), with or without accommodation.  Normal duties require climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, turning and twisting.  Pushing objects of moderate weight is required.  Eye-hand coordination and effective near vision are required.  Must be able to distinguish between colors.  Will be required to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator, gloves and apron.



Skills & Aptitudes: Language skills - Able to understand spoken instructions with regard to job training and safety concerns and the ability to speak conversational English.

Reasoning skills - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed finishing of all products. Ability to deal with changes related to equipment use and productivity.
