Mechanical Technician Job Description

Cooper's Houston is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanical Technician – Industrial Maintenance to join our manufacturing operations in Humble, Texas.

This is an immediate hiring opportunity for a hands-on mechanical maintenance professional with experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing industrial machinery, production equipment, rotating equipment, bearings, mechanical components, and manufacturing systems.

The Mechanical Technician will perform preventive maintenance and corrective mechanical maintenance to keep production equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently while minimizing unplanned downtime and supporting continuous production.

Key Responsibilities

Industrial Mechanical Maintenance

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and production equipment.
  
• Complete scheduled mechanical maintenance work orders to prevent unexpected equipment failures and production downtime.
  
• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures and identify the root cause of mechanical problems.
  
• Repair critical production machinery and equipment to maintain safe and reliable operation.
  
• Perform mechanical repairs, adjustments, replacements, inspections, and equipment servicing.
  
• Maintain standby and backup equipment in proper operating condition and ready for production use.
  
• Inspect and maintain rotating equipment, bearings, shafts, couplings, mechanical components, and related industrial equipment.
  
• Perform bearing maintenance, lubrication, component replacement, alignment, and mechanical troubleshooting as required.
  
• Identify equipment conditions that may create safety risks and recommend equipment lockout/tagout (LOTO) when necessary.
  
• Identify and communicate required mechanical spare parts, replacement components, tools, and maintenance materials.
  
• Assist with troubleshooting recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
  
• Support production continuity by responding quickly and effectively to mechanical breakdowns.
  

Safety & High-Risk Maintenance

• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, maintenance procedures, and applicable workplace safety regulations.
  
• Perform high-risk maintenance activities in strict compliance with established safety procedures.
  
• Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazardous energy control, confined space, hot work, and fall protection procedures.
  
• Perform maintenance involving work at heights, confined spaces, hot work, and hazardous energy when properly trained and authorized.
  
• Identify hazards and evaluate risks before beginning maintenance work.
  
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
  
• Stop work and report unsafe conditions when necessary to protect employees, equipment, and the facility.
  
• Maintain a strong safety-first mindset during all preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  

SAP Maintenance & Reporting

• Create, update, document, and close maintenance work orders using the SAP Maintenance Module.
  
• Accurately document preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment breakdowns, repairs, parts used, and maintenance findings.
  
• Record shift activities and communicate equipment conditions and maintenance issues to the Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator.
  
• Provide accurate information regarding equipment failures, repairs, parts requirements, and recurring mechanical issues.
  
• Maintain clear and accurate maintenance records to support equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
  

Production & Maintenance Coordination

• Coordinate daily maintenance activities with the Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator.
  
• Respond to mechanical breakdown calls and maintenance requests from Production Operators.
  
• Work closely with production personnel to diagnose and resolve equipment problems.
  
• Communicate equipment conditions and repair requirements clearly to maintenance and production teams.
  
• Support reliability, maintenance improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  
• Assist with projects and other mechanical maintenance activities as assigned.
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Technical degree, certificate, or formal training in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related mechanical field preferred/required.
  
• Proven hands-on experience performing mechanical maintenance on industrial machinery and production equipment.
  
• Experience with preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance.
  
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  
• Experience working with mechanical components, rotating equipment, bearings, lubrication systems, and industrial machinery.
  
• Ability to read and understand technical information, maintenance procedures, equipment documentation, and work instructions.
  
• Knowledge of industrial maintenance safety practices.
  
• Familiarity with LOTO / Lockout Tagout, confined spaces, hot work, work at heights, and hazardous energy procedures.
  
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment.
  
• Equivalent hands-on industrial mechanical maintenance experience may be considered in place of formal technical education.

Manufacturing & Heavy Industry Experience

Experience in manufacturing, heavy industrial, production, metal processing, industrial machinery, or plant maintenance environments is highly valued.

Candidates should be comfortable working around industrial production equipment and performing hands-on mechanical maintenance in an environment where equipment uptime, safety, reliability, and production continuity are critical.
