East Houston Medical Center is seeking a vigilant, clinically astute, and service-driven Telemetry / IMU Monitor Technician to join our acute care team. This position plays a vital role in safeguarding patient outcomes through continuous cardiac rhythm observation, prompt recognition of clinical changes, and timely communication with the nursing and provider teams in the Telemetry and Intermediate Medical Unit environment.

 

Position Summary

The Telemetry / IMU Monitor Technician is responsible for the continuous observation, interpretation, and documentation of cardiac monitoring data for patients requiring telemetry surveillance in an acute care hospital setting. This role supports patient safety by identifying normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms, escalating urgent findings without delay, and maintaining monitoring accuracy in a fast-paced clinical environment.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Continuously observe telemetry monitors and maintain awareness of assigned patient cardiac rhythms and monitored activity.
  • Recognize, interpret, and promptly communicate rhythm changes, dysrhythmias, and other clinically significant findings to the appropriate licensed nurse or provider.
  • Obtain, print, label, and maintain rhythm strips at required intervals and during notable cardiac events in accordance with unit and hospital standards.
  • Verify proper function of telemetry equipment, leads, cables, and alarm settings, and report equipment concerns immediately for resolution.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legible documentation related to telemetry monitoring responsibilities.
  • Support unit workflow through professional communication, coordination with clinical staff, and completion of related clerical or monitoring support duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a telemetry, monitor technician, EKG, or dysrhythmia interpretation course preferred.
  • Previous hospital-based telemetry, monitor technician, unit clerk, or related acute care experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic cardiac rhythm interpretation and medical terminology preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to document and communicate with accuracy and professionalism required.

Work Environment

This position supports a 24-hour hospital operation and may require day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday availability based on departmental needs. The role demands continuous visual attention, strong situational awareness, and consistent collaboration with nursing and interdisciplinary teams.
