Job Summary:
The Dermatology Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying patients' insurance eligibility, benefits, and referral requirements before scheduled appointments and procedures. This role helps ensure accurate coverage information, minimizes claim denials, and provides a seamless experience for patients and clinical staff.


Key Responsibilities:
-Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits for office visits, procedures, surgeries, pathology, and other dermatology services.
-Determine patient financial responsibility, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums.
-Identify services requiring referrals and/or pre-certification
-Review payer-specific medical policies and coverage guidelines.
-Contact insurance carriers via payer portals or by phone to obtain benefit and authorization information.
-Accurately document verification details and authorization information within the practice management
-Communicate insurance requirements, benefit information, and patient financial responsibility to front office and scheduling staff
-Resolve insurance discrepancies, eligibility issues, and registration errors prior to the patient's appointment.
-Collaborate with scheduling, billing, front office, and clinical teams to ensure timely resolution of insurance-related issues.
-Maintain knowledge of commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care insurance plans, as well as payer-specific policies.
-Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable payer and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent required; medical office or healthcare administration experience preferred.
-Minimum of 1–2 years of insurance verification experience in a medical practice, preferably dermatology or another specialty.
-Experience with electronic medical records and practice management software.
-Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office and insurance payer websites/portals.
