Job Summary:

The Food Market Support Staff plays a vital role in supporting the community by ensuring the efficient operation of the market. This position involves assisting customers, restocking shelves, maintaining cleanliness, and treating all individuals with respect and dignity. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and committed to upholding the Mystic Community Market mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Assistance:
    1. Greet and assist customers with a friendly and welcoming attitude.
    2. Help customers select food items based on their needs and preferences.
    3. Provide information about available services and programs.
  2. Restocking Shelves:
    1. Ensure shelves are stocked with food items in an organized manner.
    2. Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors when supplies are low.
    3. Rotate stock to ensure the freshness of perishable items.
  3. Maintaining Cleanliness:
    1. Keep the pantry area clean and orderly, including sweeping and sanitizing surfaces.
    2. Dispose of expired or damaged food items appropriately.
    3. Follow all health and safety regulations to maintain a hygienic environment.
  4. Respect and Dignity:
    1. Treat all customers, volunteers, and staff with respect and empathy.
    2. Maintain confidentiality and privacy of customers’ personal information.
    3. Support an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to [specified weight]).
