Community Connections is actively seeking candidates who want to help residents of Franklin County who are in need. Our Warming/Cooling Center that operates from 6pm to 6am Monday through Sunday This is a full time year round position.Â
This position is full-time consisting of  36 hours a week of overnights..  Shifts are 5pm to 5am or 7pm to 7am.The Community Support Specialist will work in partnership with other Community Support Specialist to manage day-to-day operations of our warming/cooling center.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Reliable and trustworthy, sound decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal, written and organizational skills.
- Strong active listening skills.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Demonstrated ability to serve individuals and assist interagency and outside agency employees in a professional, welcoming, and efficient manner.
- Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with individuals and co-workers. Â Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure a positive, constructive environment within individual programs and overall agency.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding the agency’s functions and individuals receiving services.
- Must be able to practice professional boundaries with individuals you are working with, fellow employee and partner’s employees always.Â
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, registration, inspection, and insurance that is always active.Â
- Ability to engage and reengage individuals for services.Â
- Knowledge of trauma and its effect on an individual.
- Must promote the agency within the community.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must be able to work to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to clear NYS Justice background check, NYS Office of Children and Family Services background check and clear the NYS staff exclusion list, OIG, HHS-OIG.

Job Responsibilities:
- Must complete Mandated Reporting and HIPAA training within first week of employment.
- Must complete CPR and First Aid Training
- Must complete De-escalation Training.
- Must obtain New York State Peer Certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Must obtain CEU’s annually to maintain your New York State Peer Certification.
- Oversee all responsibilities for the Warming/Cooling Center, referrals, record keeping, supply ordering and adherence to CCFC’s policies and guidelines.
- Must ensure the safety of every individual staying in the Warming/Cooling Center.
- Send daily, weekly, and monthly reports as requested, depending on the program.
- Communicate with a positive outlook to all individuals at the Warming/Cooling Center.
- Meet individuals where they are at in life with an understanding of their circumstances.
- Help connect individuals to services and/or resources.
- Must utilize de-escalation techniques prior to contacting law enforcement.
- Ensure all Warming/Cooling Center policies, guidelines and regulations are adhered to by individuals. Â
- Ensure the Warming/Cooling Center program meets the agency, county, state, and federal guidelines.
- Ensure the Warming/Cooling Center is clean and well always maintained.
- Must adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
- Must adhere to professional boundaries with fellow employees, individuals receiving services, and partner agency employees.
- Must continuously learn system processes for all systems in Franklin County, such as but not limited to, housing, food, courts, probation, parole.
- Empower individuals you are working with through information and education at a level they can comprehend.
- Facilitate training & meetings regarding housing resources with individuals in the shelter.
- Mutual support individuals.
- Work collaboratively with Franklin County Department of Social Services employees and Law Enforcement Officers.
- Attend all required meetings and/or trainings requested by the agency and/or partner agency.
