About the role
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer focused on hands-on field commissioning for pharmaceutical manufacturing and utilities. This role supports PLC/DCS and Emerson DeltaV-based control systems. Emerson DeltaV experience is helpful but not required. Pharmaceutical experience is useful but not required. The position requires strong teamwork with electrical, automation/controls, and process professionals, and strong ability to interpret engineering drawings in the field.
Requirements
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on commissioning support at customer sites, including:
- SAT activities,
- start-up support,
- troubleshooting and issue resolution in the field.
- Support FAT readiness and testing activities at the factory/shop as needed (travel required).
- Use engineering drawings and documentation to support installation checks and commissioning execution, including:
- wiring/interconnect understanding,
- instrument/loop checks,
- control logic and panel/IO-related interpretation.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and controls problems during commissioning and start-up, partnering with site teams and vendors.
- Execute point-to-point checks, loop checks, and functional testing as directed by commissioning/test procedures.
- Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams (electrical, automation/controls, and process) during commissioning activities to drive issues to closure.
- Maintain clear field documentation including redlines, punch lists, test results, troubleshooting logs, and punch closure support.
- Follow site safety requirements and support safe field execution (permits, access coordination, and work practices).
Qualifications
- 5-15 years of experience in instrumentation/controls and/or industrial automation with a strong commissioning and/or field execution background.
- Demonstrated experience with PLC/DCS-style controls and commissioning (field commissioning experience is strongly valued).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and use them effectively in the field.
- Proven team player mindset working with electrical, automation/controls, and process professionals.
- Willingness and ability to travel to several US sites for FAT, start-up, and SAT.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV (helpful but not required).
- Some pharmaceutical experience and/or familiarity with GMP expectations (helpful).
- Some college education is preferred (a 4-year degree is not required).
