This role will help build and scale Client Assist, Vanguard’s AI-powered advisor experience, creating innovative solutions that transform how clients engage with advice, planning, and decision-making.

As a Senior AI Technical Lead, you will design, develop, and deploy advanced AI-enabled applications and platform capabilities that support the next generation of client experiences. You will work at the forefront of emerging technologies, including large language models, agentic systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), evaluation frameworks, and cloud-native architectures. This role requires a hands-on technologist who is passionate about continuous learning, technical leadership, and delivering production-ready AI solutions that create measurable client value.

Primary technologies include Node.js, TypeScript, Python, AWS, AWS Bedrock, LangGraph, Gemini, MCP (Model Context Protocol), Arize, agent memory frameworks, and modern AI evaluation tooling.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, implement, and support scalable AI-driven applications, services, and platform capabilities that enable innovative client advice experiences.

  • Architect and integrate solutions leveraging AWS Bedrock, large language models, agent orchestration frameworks, RAG architectures, agent memory, and multi-model ecosystems.

  • Evaluate technical approaches and provide recommendations regarding system design, architecture, platform capabilities, third-party products, and build-versus-buy decisions.

  • Develop, test, deploy, and monitor production-ready software solutions while ensuring reliability, scalability, performance, and security.

  • Lead technical design reviews, code reviews, testing activities, and architecture discussions to maintain high engineering standards and solution quality.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across development, testing, and production environments; provide ongoing production support as needed.

  • Establish and promote software engineering best practices, development standards, AI governance considerations, and secure development methodologies.

  • Mentor and support engineers by sharing technical expertise, providing guidance, and fostering continuous learning across the team.

  • Partner closely with product, design, data, and engineering stakeholders to translate client and business needs into effective technical solutions.

  • Stay current on emerging technologies, AI platform advancements, and industry trends, identifying opportunities to improve Vanguard’s AI capabilities and client experience.

  • Ensure compliance with Information Technology and Information Security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Contribute to special initiatives and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required.

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, application development, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.

  • Demonstrated experience building, deploying, and supporting enterprise-scale applications and services.

  • Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, Python, and cloud-native development, preferably within AWS environments.

  • Experience working with generative AI technologies, large language models, agent frameworks, RAG architectures, evaluation frameworks, or related AI platform capabilities.

  • Proven ability to influence technical direction, solve complex engineering challenges, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Hands-on engineering role with expectations for ongoing learning and experimentation with emerging AI technologies.

  • May require participation in production support, deployment activities, and incident response as needed.
