Position Summary
The OSP Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily field operations for Outside Plant (OSP) construction projects. This position oversees field crews, equipment, and job site activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, customer specifications, and project timelines.
The OSP Foreman serves as a key field leader by promoting safety, productivity, communication, and quality workmanship while maintaining accountability for crew performance and project execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of OSP field crews
- Oversee underground fiber optic construction activities including directional drilling, trenching, cable / fiber placement, restoration, and splicing support
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and customer requirements.
- Conduct daily job site safety meetings and enforce safe work practices.
- Review project prints, maps, work orders, and construction documentation prior to beginning work.
- Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and job site logistics to maintain project schedules.
- Monitor production, workmanship quality, and crew performance.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and accountability of company tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Communicate daily progress updates, project concerns, delays, and material needs to management.
- Verify field documentation including production reports, timesheets, and daily job reports for accuracy.
- Coordinate utility locates ensuring damage prevention practices are followed.
- Perform job site inspections to ensure quality standards and restoration requirements are met.
- Assist with training and development of crew members to improve performance and operational knowledge.
- Address field issues and resolve operational challenges in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, inspectors, municipalities, and property owners when necessary.
- Support project completion goals while maintaining efficiency, quality, and accountability.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in OSP telecommunications construction or related field experience.
- Prior leadership or crew supervision experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of underground fiber optic construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints, maps, and utility documentation.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and safe construction practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced and physically demanding environments.
- Ability to manage crews, schedules, and project priorities effectively.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fiber placement, restoration, hand hole installation, directional drilling, trenching and utility construction.
- CDL license preferred but not required.
- OSHA 30 certification or other construction safety certifications preferred.
- Experience working with telecommunications customers and municipal requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment as required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The standard work environment for this position is primarily indoors, although outdoor work may occasionally be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, use hands, stoop, kneel, reach, and communicate effectively. The individual is frequently required to stand and walk and must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently up to 25 pounds. The individual may also be required to work from heights and in tight, confined spaces.
