Core Expectations (Non-Negotiable)

  • Must be able to access military bases and secure job sites without restriction.
  • Must demonstrate strong, professional communication skills with field crews, management, and office staff.
  • Must be confident enforcing safety policies on active civil construction sites, including excavation and trenching operations.
  • Must operate independently, proactively, and with authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Safety & Inspections
  • Conduct daily job site safety visits, with a minimum of three site visits per day, focusing on meaningful, in-depth evaluations.
  • Perform site safety inspections and audits, prioritizing excavation, trenching, confined space work, and other high-risk activities.
  • Observe work practices to ensure proper use of PPE, tools, and equipment.
  • Document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up requirements.
  • Training & Orientation
  • Lead new hire safety orientation and ensure all required certifications are completed.
  • Coordinate and track employee safety certifications and renewals.
  • Support internal safety training programs led by the company’s certified trainers.
  • Participate in future improvements to onboarding and hands-on equipment training initiatives.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Respond immediately to job site incidents.
  • Conduct initial evaluations and manage follow-up actions as required.
  • Complete and manage all related documentation (incident reports, witness statements, superintendent reports, etc.).
  • Coordinate reporting to insurance carriers or government agencies when required.
  • Maintain internal safety records and documentation, including OSHA-related logs as directed.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain job site safety documentation and internal audit records.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards as a minimum, while enforcing company policies that exceed OSHA requirements.
  • Assist with internal tracking of safety metrics and trends.

Safety Culture & Leadership

  • Actively promote a strong safety culture through:
    • Participation in safety stand-downs and toolbox talks
    • Monthly safety raffles and recognition initiatives
    • Support of year-end safety recognition programs
  • Exercise full authority to enforce safety policies on site, escalating issues as needed.
  • Work with foremen, superintendents, and directors to improve safety buy-in and accountability.
  • Participate in monthly superintendent and director meetings to discuss incidents, trends, and safety needs.
  • Coordinate daily coverage with the Safety team to ensure full operational coverage (morning through late-day site presence).

 

Minimum Qualifications

(Required)

  • S. citizen with the ability to access secure and military installations.
  • Clean background check and ability to pass an MVR.
  • Valid driver’s license and REAL ID.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • OSHA 30 (Construction) certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish with clear, correct, and professional grammar.
  • Demonstrated experience performing job site safety inspections or audits.
  • Construction industry experience, with a strong preference for civil, excavation, and trenching work.

(Preferred)

  • CHST or higher safety certification (preferred but not required).
  • Experience working in multi-site, fast-paced construction environments.
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally and assertively with field crews and management.

Certifications & Training Overview

  • OSHA 30 (Construction): Minimum requirement.
  • OSHA 500: Not required for this role unless teaching OSHA 10/30 courses. Internal OSHA instruction will remain with the company’s certified trainer.
  • CPR/First Aid and equipment-specific training may be required or provided internally as needed.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Regularly required to sit and stand, must be able to use hands to fingers, handle or feel and verbally communicate and listen.
  • Other physical requirements include walking, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Specific vision abilities required by the position include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
