We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to manage the development of innovative medical devices. In this role, you will work as part of a team driving products through their lifecycle from concept to delivery. We are on the hunt for a leader with a maker-space mentality who is motivated, hands-on, a self-starter with strong critical thinking skills and a sense of ownership. 
 
How will you make a difference as a Lead Mechanical Engineer: 
  • Create innovative product designs from design concept to production, incorporating new research and machine learning technologies.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team including electrical, software, industrial design, controls, and systems engineers, along with Quality, Regulatory, human factors, safety testing, and external vendors.
  • Interface with team to establish design requirements and product attributes.
  • Drive concept ideation – white board / CAD / FEA / prototypes.
  • Establish overall system architecture with team and define hardware subsystems.
  • Define tasks and estimate associated labor in support of program management schedules.
  • Develop FMEAs. Evaluate designs through simulation, prototype testing, usability studies, and engineering testing of requirements.
  • Transition concepts into products using 3D CAD Solid Modeling, selecting materials and processes, interacting with suppliers and manufacturers, and documenting the design input/output, and other development processes.
  • Demonstrate design viability considering human factors, risk, reliability, manufacturability, innovation, weight, and cost. 
  • Troubleshoot design failure modes to root cause and develop quick, effective solutions.
  • Develop engineering test methods and transfer them to design verification team.
  • Technical review and approval for all mechanical component and assembly designs, analyses, and engineering testing.
  • Lead a team of 7-10 personnel: engineers, CAD designers, interns.
  • Set an excellent example of mechanical engineering practices and provide a level of mentorship to less knowledgeable engineers
Skills you will need to be successful: 
  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering Degree 
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in product design, preferably in medical device.
  • Experience designing dynamic systems with electro-mechanical devices, medical device a plus
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical design tools and software (CAD, FEA, etc.) and tolerance analysis.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in an open group environment
