Job DetailsJob Location: Manchester, TN 37355SUMMARY Repairs and overhauls automobiles, buses, trucks, and other city heavy or light equipment by performing the following duties in shop facility or field as required                 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   Examines vehicle and discussed with department head or supervisor the nature and extend of damage or malfunction.  Plan work procedure Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or lift to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear Repairs or replaces pats as needed Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel Relines and adjusts brakes, repairs or replaces shock absorbers Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers Must be able to perform diagnostics/scanning for testing Familiar with hydraulic systems, repairs, and replacements Repair, mount, and balance all types of tires Basic Knowledge and operation of multiple types of equipment General knowledge of welding, cutting torch, plasma cutter and band saw Must be able to operate all equipment classified as light and heavy equipment by the Manchester Public Works Department Performs other duties may be assigned On call 24/7 Must respond to callout with in 30-minute time frame   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None required     QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to top management   MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume   REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to apply principals of logical thinking to a wide range of abstract and concrete variables.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, site plats, graphs, etc.)   CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid CDL Class B Tennessee Driver’s License   PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel. crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, and color vision.   WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
