​Job Description: 

Mental Health Technician – PEP

Who We Are:

Psychiatric Emergency Program (PEP) is a 6-bed emergency behavioral crisis unit located within the ED. Elliot Behavioral Health Services is staffed by a team of mental health professionals who tailor both evaluation and treatment services to each individual patient. Our state-of-the-art units provide a wide array of equipment and patient acuity depending on a nurse’s professional interests, certifications, and experience level.    

About the Job:

The Mental Health Technician works under the direction of the RN Charge Nurse, and shares responsibility for providing and maintaining a therapeutic milieu through supervised therapeutic activities. The Mental Health Technician facilitates and provides direct care for patients of all ages; supports the therapeutic milieu; ensures the safety and well-being of patients.

What You’ll Do:

  • Participates in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities
  • Sets limits, confronts counterproductive behavior, and reassures and orients patients
  • Performs safety checks and assists in managing therapeutic milieu
  • Collaborates with other unit personnel with crisis intervention techniques
  • Facilitates and leads community meetings and groups

Who You Are:

  • Associates degree, Certification in Behavioral Sciences program, or its equivalent coursework required
  • 6 months experience in behavioral health setting preferred
  • Aggression de-escalation training approved by EHS
