Description

  • The Grant Writer serves as a key member of the Impact & Community Outreach team and is primarily responsible for researching funding opportunities, developing compelling grant proposals, and managing the entire grant application process. They serve as a liaison to funders, donors, grantors, and community partners. This role works closely with both the Impact & Community Outreach team and the Grant Compliance Specialist to attract and steward philanthropic giving used to support the advancement of programs and maximum impact of the mission of the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent the organization’s mission to donors, potential donors, and other external stakeholders
  • Conduct comprehensive research on potential funding sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporate donors using databases such as FINS, Raiser's Edge, and other tools.
  • Identify, research, and prioritize grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources. Lead the writing, editing, and submission of compelling grant proposals and Letters of Intent.
  • Develop persuasive grant proposals that clearly articulate program goals, objectives, and outcomes while aligning with funder priorities.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of grant applications from initial research and proposal writing to submission, follow-up, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather necessary information, data, and success stories to strengthen proposals.
  • Prepare detailed budgets and financial reports in accordance with funder guidelines to demonstrate program sustainability and accountability.
  • Maintain a calendar and accurate records of grants submitted, awarded, declined, or pending using contract management systems and databases.
  • Prepare regular reports for leadership and board presentations
  • Serve as relationship manager for funders and prospects including thank you communications, impact reporting, and engagement touchpoints.
  • Expand existing donor base by leading the research and outreach of prospective corporate and individual donors (i.e., SR Match companies or sponsors for ELCHC events)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or closely related field. A combination of education and relevant professional work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in grant proposal writing with a strong portfolio of successful applications.
  • Familiarity with contract management processes and the use of databases such as FINS, Raiser's Edge, or similar fundraising software.
  • Demonstrated ability in program development, strategic planning, budgeting, and fundraising best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in donor database or client relationship management tools (CRM systems)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate Return on Investment
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Technical proficiency in editing, proofreading, and financial report writing to ensure precision in all documents.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Products, Advanced/Expert MS Excel Skills Highly Preferred

  • This position requires successful completion of the level 2 background screening standards as set forth in s. 435.04, F.S.
