The Asphalt Paver Operator is responsible for operating asphalt paving equipment to place, spread, and level hot mix asphalt on roadways, parking lots, and other paved surfaces. This role requires technical skill, attention to grade and slope, and strong coordination with the paving crew to deliver a smooth, durable finished product. The Paver Operator is also responsible for the care, inspection, and proper use of assigned equipment and for contributing positively to overall crew performance and job-site safety.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate asphalt paver equipment in accordance with project plans, specifications, and company standards
  • Control paving speed and material flow to maintain proper grade, slope, and mat consistency
  • Coordinate closely with the foreman, screed operator, roller operators, and laborers to maintain steady production and quality
  • Perform daily pre-operation inspections and report mechanical issues promptly
  • Assist with routine cleaning, lubrication, and general upkeep of paving equipment
  • Monitor asphalt placement quality and adjust operations as job conditions change
  • Maintain situational awareness around crew members, traffic, and job-site hazards
  • Follow all safety requirements, company policies, and job-site procedures


General Expectations

  • Work as a committed member of the paving crew; assist others as needed to keep production moving
  • Take ownership of assigned equipment and treat it with care and professionalism
  • Arrive on time and ready to work at designated start times and job locations
  • Maintain consistent attendance and communicate availability and schedule conflicts in advance
  • Wear required PPE at all times, including hard hat, high-visibility apparel, safety boots, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection as required
  • Maintain a professional attitude and contribute to a safe, respectful job-site environment


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including overtime when required.
  • Construction job sites with exposure to moving equipment, traffic, dust, noise, and hot asphalt materials.
  • Frequent travel between project locations may be required.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be necessary during peak construction seasons.
