POSITION SUMMARY:


The Material Handler Lead is responsible for overseeing daily material handling operations, ensuring accurate and timely movement of materials to support production. This role provides frontline leadership to Material Handlers, enforces inventory control processes, and ensures all material transactions and traceability requirements are executed correctly within the ERP system.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Lead, direct, and support Material Handlers in daily activities
  2. Train and coach team members on proper material handling and ERP transaction practices
  3. Serve as the primary point of contact between Materials, Production, and Planning
  4. Coordinate receiving, storage, staging, and delivery of materials
  5. Prioritize critical material needs to prevent production delays
  6. Oversee kitting and staging processes to improve workflow efficiency

7. Ensure materials are delivered to the correct job, operation, and location

  1. Enforce accurate, real-time ERP transactions (issues, returns, transfers, receipts)
  2. Monitor inventory integrity and resolve discrepancies
  3.  Lead or support cycle counts and physical inventory activities
  4. Ensure proper job assignment of material to maintain cost accuracy
  5. Ensure proper material identification (tags, heat numbers, certifications where applicable
  6. Partner with Planning, Purchasing, and Production to improve material availability
  7. Lead improvements in warehouse layout, staging strategy, and material processes
  8. Promote and enforce safe material handling practices
  9. Ensure compliance with equipment operation standards (forklifts, rigging, etc.)

EDUCATION:

 

High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training preferred.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. 3-5 years of material handling or warehouse experience in manufacturing
  3. Experience of leading/coordinating a team
  4. Understanding of inventory control and material flow
  5. Experience with material traceability (heat numbers, certs, etc.)
  6. ERP experience (Syteline preferred)
  7. Computer and/or scanner use experience
  8. Forklift certification

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

This position involves performing physical tasks in a warehouse and shipyard environment. Essential functions may include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials (generally up to 50 pounds), as well as frequent bending, reaching, and twisting. The position also involves standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift and includes operating material handling equipment. Occasional climbing of stairs or ladders and working in varying environmental conditions may be required.
