Requirements

  What You'll Do

  • Teach workplace safety using approved curricula, resulting in students earning the OSHA-10 Basic Safety certification.
  • Manage the NCCER certification process, including tracking, registering, and submitting all documentation students need to earn their credentials.
  • Develop and coordinate a pacing guide aligned to NCCER curricula, ensuring students have adequate time to master construction skills.
  • Implement the construction laboratory safety plan and follow all procedures for reporting accidents and injuries.
  • Create a supportive, engaging learning environment using group work, hands-on activities, and multimedia instruction to reach every learning style.
  • Coordinate with academic teachers to identify students who need learning accommodations and incorporate them into instruction and testing.
  • Mentor, coach, and advise students on the employability and soft skills, such as teamwork, communication, and accountability, needed for construction careers.
  • Build relationships with construction industry partners, alongside school leadership, to create employment opportunities for graduates.
  • Maintain a detailed tracking system and complete all steps of the certification process so students receive their credentials on time.
  • Maintain proactive, effective communication with the school team and provide required performance reports.


What You'll Need

  • No restrictions in securing an Ohio Department of Education vocational teacher license or permit.
  • Exceptional craft skills in the area of construction, ideally with a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction or a construction-related field. Residential construction experience is preferred, though commercial experience is also welcome. Strong construction experience is required for approval to take the certification class to become an NCCER Craft Instructor.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; proficiency with NCCER preferred (candidates with NCCER proficiency already hold their NCCER Craft Instructor license).
  • A passion for improving educational and career opportunities for urban students.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with effective organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to support students in achieving academic and career goals.
