The Job You Will Perform:
Reporting to the Utilities Business Unit Manager, the Utilities First Line Leader (FLL) is responsible for leading shift team operations in the powerhouse. The Utilities FLL supervises a crew of 16 members to operate all powerhouse process systems and other related equipment in a safe and productive manner. This leadership position is accountable for the safety of their crew, continued environmental compliance, productivity, troubleshooting, as well as member training and development. The person in this role must be able to effectively communicate and manage expectations to achieve department objectives. The Utilities FLL is expected to work and act in accordance with the IP Leadership Model as part of their growth and development as a leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Utilities department in the day to day operations.
- Thorough understanding of the department’s safety rules and regulations. The Utilities FLL is the driving force behind SAFETY ABOVE ALL ELSE with their crew.
- Understand and explain the importance of the Mansfield Philosophy, key levers, and mill financial indicators and how they as first line leaders can impact those areas.
- Understand and be able to teach basic ideas and requirements of the Manufacturing Work System, including notification entry & delivery ticket creation in SAP and outage planning
- Conduct regular 1:1’s with all members to set and adjust goals, address training concerns, questions, coaching and counseling for performance issues as required.
- Proficiently find all start-up and shutdown procedures for all equipment and have a basic understanding of those procedures.
- The Utilities FLL should understand the technical aspects of all areas in Utilities to make quality business decisions.
- Serve as point of contact for Utilities during upset conditions involving the process, people, and the environment.
- Responsible for maintaining a high standard with housekeeping in all Utilities areas.
- Support the Department Learning Leader and the Department with completing 3PQP, RBSA, and Manufacturing Alert requirements.
- Support development implementation of training for direct reports by working closely with the Department Learning Leader (DLL).
- Encourage and motivate crew members to engage with safety.
- Assign responsibility for tasks and delegates to direct reports with changes to assigned jobs.
- Responsible for meeting and exceeding established production, optimum costs, and quality goals.
- Diligently audits work systems to ensure consistent operations (rounds, log sheets, check sheets, inspection procedures, TCC’s, centerline, etc.)
- Improve competency with online tools to monitor process (PI Vision, DMS, Proficy, Excel, SharePoint, etc.)
- Lead the resolution of mechanical and operating malfunctions throughout the mill process in Utilities.
- Read and interpret the results of all required tests and take the necessary corrective action, including but not limited to general water, boiler, hydrometer, chlorine, and liquor tests.
- Demonstrate good listening and communication skills. Effectively communicate with all operating departments and all levels of mill management.
- Complete the FLL Proficient curriculum within two years of assignment.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and established skill to execute work based on standards and procedures.
Position Requirements:
Possess a minimum of five (5) years of Utilities operating experience or an engineering degree and two (2) years of relevant experience.
Strong computer skills with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc)
