The Facilities Engineer supports the critical infrastructure, systems and processes that enable research and development activities and commercial office operations to ensure reliability, compliance and sustainability. This role works closely with facilities technicians, business leaders and cross-functional partners to improve the design, monitoring, maintenance and operation of facilities systems. Key areas of focus include infrastructure performance, process improvement, maintenance planning, troubleshooting and long-term system reliability, with flexibility to support facilities functions as business and site needs evolve.

This is an on-site role requiring employees to work from the local Boston Scientific site. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and supporting facilities infrastructure and capital projects to improve system reliability, operational efficiency and long-term campus performance
  • Serving as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering representative on large capital projects, partnering with project teams, consultants and contractors to support design, construction and commissioning activities
  • Planning, coordinating and supporting maintenance activities for building infrastructure systems to improve system reliability and operational performance
  • Troubleshooting and investigating the root cause of mechanical, plumbing, electrical and building automation system (BAS) issues impacting site operations
  • Identifying opportunities to improve monitoring, alarming and automation capabilities to enhance system reliability and minimize operational risk
  • Supporting the operation, reliability and continuous improvement of critical campus infrastructure systems, including HVAC systems, electrical distribution systems, plumbing systems, building automation systems and related utilities
  • Partnering with facilities technicians to improve maintenance processes, system troubleshooting capabilities and operational effectiveness across the site
  • Identifying and implementing energy efficiency initiatives and infrastructure upgrades that support operational and environmental sustainability as well as emissions reduction goals
  • Supporting qualification, validation and change control activities for facilities systems and infrastructure; ensure systems and processes comply with applicable regulatory, quality and operational standards
  • Developing, reviewing and maintaining engineering documentation, procedures and quality records
  • Coordinating with contractors, vendors and cross-functional teams to execute facilities-related work safely and efficiently across campus operations

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 2 years of experience with utility systems, infrastructure and/or manufacturing engineering OR an associate’s degree with at least 15yrs facilities-related experience in a R&D, industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure systems such as HVAC, chilled water, boilers, compressed air, clean utilities, generators or related building systems
  • Experience troubleshooting complex engineering or operational systems and driving process improvements
  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, change control and quality systems within regulated environments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing operational needs within a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and engineering documentation systems

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, or industrial engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or related technical certifications
  • Experience supporting FDA-regulated manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other highly regulated industries
  • Experience partnering closely with maintenance or facilities technician teams and supporting maintenance planning, scheduling and troubleshooting activities
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance, reliability engineering or asset management principles
  • Experience with clean rooms, controlled environments, purified water systems or validated utility systems
  • Experience supporting energy efficiency, sustainability or emissions reduction initiatives
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS), monitoring systems and building controls
  • Effective communication, collaboration and project coordination skills

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
