Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant on the Med/Surg Neurology Unit at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN.

 

Schedule: This role is a .7 FTE (56 hours every 2 weeks) working 8-hour evening shifts, with every other weekend rotation. Variable weekday schedule.

About this Unit:
There are 31 beds on this unit which sees a little bit of everything. We see on average about 30 patients a day and turn half of their beds within a day. On the Med/Surg side, they are a medical tele unit, and they support a variety of surgeries and also specialty surgeries including bowel resections, amputations, and complex wound care. On the Neuro/Tele side they provide care to patients that have had a transient ischemic attack (TIA), stroke, confusion, seizures and VP shunt placement.

 

Responsibilities:

A member of the interdependent team led by a designated RN, is accountable to perform patient care duties and activities for a group of patients. Performs such care as vital sign checks, bladder scanning, blood sugar testing, documentation of cares provided. Reports patient care data and progress of outcomes to designated RN.

  • Demonstrates commitment to the universal guiding principles of the patient care model in order to achieve the M Health Fairview Nursing vision.
  • Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcome focused patient care. Supports holistic nursing theory based on Watson's theory of caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses' Association and the nursing patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) in order to achieve the M Health Fairview Nursing vision.
  • Communicates accurately and effectively with patient/family and health care team members. Reinforces patient education as directed by clinical staff.
  • Achieves customer service excellence by understanding the needs of all internal and external customers, patients, families, physicians and the interdependent team.
  • Documents patient information in EHR and/or other electronic system in accordance with program standards, department policies/procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.


Required Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • AND one or more of the following: 
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Or
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
  • Or
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
  • Or
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
