Job Summary:

This position reports to the Officer of Donated Goods Retail with latitude for independent actions within the scope of the mission, guiding principles, values, ethics and strategic goals of Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc. This position will be required to lead and oversee the general operations of multiple assigned retail stores. Responsibilities also include hiring, training, and developing store management teams in order to improve individual and organizational performance, and to ensure stores meet or exceed financial goals and company standards regarding performance, appearance, operation, and other metrics.


 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of Store Managers, and New Goods Coordinator, and indirect supervision of Assistant Managers, Truck Drivers, Team Leads, Sales Associates, and Utility Workers. 
  • Supervise and motivate store management to ensure production guidelines are consistently being accomplished, and to be capable of producing by example as well. 
  • Provides ongoing coaching and development to all levels of staff. Continuously develops store management to better perform their duties and ensures consistency throughout the DGR retail department. 
  • Recruit, interview, and hire store management staff and retail/operations/e-merchandise staff in order to keep multiple locations productively and efficiently staffed at all times. 
  • Demonstrates leadership by holding all team members accountable for established best practices and standard operating procedures. 
  • Evaluates regional store performance and makes recommendations to the Officer of Donated Goods Retail.
  • Ensures regional equity and compliance with all federal, state and local regulations; safety, security, and quality standards/codes, and agency policy. Assists team members in understanding and complying with CARF standards.
  • Regionally monitors the quality and quantity of merchandise and that production output is adequate to meet sales goals.  Ensures the highest level of customer service to reduce customer complaints and problems. Makes recommendations to the Officer of Donated Goods Retail.
  • Regionally ensures that proper volume of new goods merchandise is available on sales floors.
  • Regionally ensures the proper volume of e-merchandise items are available for online sales.
  • Assists in reviewing resumes and applications for vacant managerial positions, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions.
  • Submits recommendations regarding annual store budgets to the Officer of Donated Goods Retail.
  • Represents the regional managers’ interests to the Officer of Donated Goods Retail.
  • Works collaboratively within department to maximize service opportunities and maintain a continuous improvement agenda. Maintains communicative relationships. Promotes and practices visibility internally and externally. 
  • Contributes to decision making and operational execution of company initiatives across all areas of the organization to enhance and support the mission[SS1] .
  • Reviews and analyzes the results of the regional stores in order to identify performance standards, detect trends, and determine recommendations for proper course of action.
  • Works with supervisor and direct reports to promote retail activities and develop and implement strategies resulting in increased revenues.
  • Is available during nontraditional hours including weekends, holidays and evening periods.
  • Serves as an emergency contact for agency locations in need of support outside regular business hours.
  • Examines and analyzes expenses, production, and sales to achieve maximum Expense/Revenue based on strategic goals and operating plans. This includes maintaining sales, donations, and production benchmarks. Makes recommendations to the Officer of Donated Goods Retail to increase efficiency, increase revenue, and lower expense.
  • Ensures good customer service, quality merchandise, competitive prices, and a shopping experience that meets agency expectations. Maintains systems to measure these activities on a regular basis.
  • Analyzes monthly production, sales and donor reports to identify store weaknesses and helps develop strategies to correct them.
  • Ensures all locations retail locations are appropriately maintained, visually appealing and portray a quality image[SS2] .
  • Responsible for follow up and follow-through reporting[SS3] .
  • Completes all duties of the job and all work requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required, with a minimum of 5 years of leadership or management experience in military services, retail, restaurant, or other service-based environments.
  • At least 2 years’ successful multi-site management experience, leading teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, coach, and engage teams.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with internal teams and external partners.
  • Comfortable using technology and business systems to drive performance.
  • Demonstrated integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proven ability to oversee operations in geographically dispersed locations.
  • Positive, motivating leadership style that inspires accountability and results.
  • Strong alignment with the agency’s mission, values, and policies.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to take initiative in fast-paced environment

Work Environment:

Multi-location retail and donation center environment requiring regular travel between site. Exposure to retail and warehouse conditions.
