Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the hospital’s PBX telephone console and communication system
- Provide basic information to callers, visitors, and patients
- Acts in a professional manner at all times and knowledgeable of all departments in the facility
- Respond to emergency codes and announcements (such as Code Blue, fire alarms, or disaster alerts) according to hospital procedures
- Demonstrates the ability to be organized and flexible in stressful situations
- Excellent customer service skills and performs other duties as assigned
- Answer incoming calls to the hospital in a professional manner
- Transfer calls to the appropriate departments, patient rooms, physicians, nurses, or staff members
- Make overhead paging announcements when requested
- Assist with other duties such as registering patients, etc.
Requirements
Regulatory Requirements
- Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital
